From plates and curves to partitions: same-day mycoplasma testing goes digital

Live30 webinars pack the latest innovations and applications into a data-rich 30-minute session.

Can mycoplasma testing move from weeks to same-day results without compromising the sensitivity needed to detect low-level contamination? For manufacturers of cell-based therapies, faster results can help reduce delays in critical decision-making during development and production.

In this webinar, expert speakers will share their perspectives on reverse transcription digital PCR (RT-dPCR) for rapid mycoplasma testing. Drawing on over 30 years of mycoplasma testing experience, they will present its evaluation of a one-day workflow combining automated nucleic acid extraction with RT-dPCR.

The session will share sensitivity data across multiple Mollicutes species and challenging sample matrices, using an approach that detects both ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and DNA. It will further highlight how rapid methods fit within current pharmacopeial expectations and what to keep in mind when evaluating a move to dPCR.

Attend this webinar to:

  • Review sensitivity data for low-level viable mycoplasma detection across multiple Mollicutes species and challenging sample matrices
  • Understand how an RT-dPCR approach that detects both rRNA and DNA supports sensitive detection of viable contamination
  • See how combining automated nucleic acid extraction with RT-dPCR simplified testing and shortened time to result compared with a quantitative PCR (qPCR) approach
  • Apply practical lessons from an experienced testing laboratory to decide where digital PCR could fit within your existing mycoplasma testing strategy

Chief Executive Officer at Bionique

Andy Bailey is a virologist who served for 9 years at the MRC Virology Unit in Glasgow. In 1995, he moved to the industry sector, initially as Director of Virus Validation services with Q-One Biotech Ltd, and later at the Pathogen Safety group of Baxter Healthcare in Vienna, Austria. Over the last 30 years, Andy has been actively involved in the biosafety field, specialising in adventitious agents and has presented at numerous regulatory agencies either in support of products at the UK MHRA, German PEI, French AFFSAPS, US FDA, KFDA (Korea), EMEA and JMHLW (Japan) supporting regulatory submissions for various products. He has extensive experience in regulatory affairs and contamination issues.

In 2005 he has been the founder and CEO of ViruSure in Vienna, Austria, a company specialising in the adventitious agent safety of biopharmaceutical products and in 2026 assumed the CEO role at ViruSure’s sister company Bionique.
